Hey EVERYONE it's free slurpee day at 7-11! Sadly my day did not consist of free slurpees because I just found out and it's nearly bedtime...boooo! However, I have so many questions regarding the "free-ness" of these slurpees. Do you get unlimited free slurpees? Do they care if you just fill it up, drink it while perusing the aisle of gum then return to the machine, fill, and repeat? Or does one have to go home, suck down that slurpee and get a brainfreeze while simultaneously changing clothes to go back incognito for another free slurpee? I NEED TO KNOW! Alas, I guess I'll have to wait until next 7-11. And this time I'm marking my dang calendar! I won't be the last to know again!!! While I sit and come to terms that I missed out on a great frozen treat opportunity, let me also share that I tried something brand new today! It won't seem like much to you (maybe), but it was quite an accomplishment for me. I made salmon! Well, technically I didn't "make" salmon, but I did cook it like a champ! I'm not a big fan of fish - touching, smelling, eating.. none of the above. However, Brian loves fish. He recently went with my mom and ordered a small shipload of salmon and cod. So now that our freezer looks like something from the deadliest catch (I totally wish it was a freezer full of crab!!), I have to try to use up some of them! And that's just what I did! July is all about the hot weather, cookouts with great food, and of course celebrating our independence. While this year's July 4th celebration was kind of drab in the weather department, we made up for it with the food & celebrating. Cookouts on the farm could quite literally feed an army. Everyone brings multiple dishes and we sit around eating and making numerous trips back to the food tables until we can't move. Considering a gathering on the farm easily brings in 30 people, you can imagine the feast. Usually after eating I like to roll myself down to the pool and lounge around for a bit. Today however, I wanted nothing more than to take my well-rounded, totally stuffed self and conduct a serious cannonball just to show the kiddos who's boss. While these visions of the ultimate cannonball and tsunami sized wave I'd create danced in my head, I knew unless I wanted to welcome my baby today that I'd better skip on the mega splash take down. #nexttime This year's fireworks were supplied by Dustin who serves in the US Navy. We were glad he could get some time to spend with his mom and sister, and have a little fun on the farm with us too. Of course when it was time to set these said fireworks off, my husband gladly volunteered. Now if you've ever seen a kid receive the perfect gift at Christmas, (Nintendo 64 anyone??), then you've seen my husband with fireworks. He held them in his hand like Lady Liberty and sent them rocketing toward the night sky. Later, he battled my cousin with a roman candle. That folks is when we realized we were in it just a little too far. The night came to a wrap a little while after all the boys came back with all their eyebrows and fingers still visible. Phew! I hope everyone had a wonderful 4th with friends, family, and your fair share of amazing food. Thanks to all our veterans and to the active duty men and women who keep our country safe and provide us the freedoms we too often take for granted.
